Ford Recalls 15,000 Vehicles: Brake & Steering Risks

Ford Recalls 15000 Vehicles Brake Steering Risks

Ford Motor Company is taking proactive steps to address potential safety concerns in some of its popular vehicle lines. The automaker has issued two distinct recalls affecting approximately 15,000 vehicles in total.

These actions highlight Ford’s commitment to vehicle safety and address specific issues that could impact braking performance and steering control. Owners of certain 2022-2024 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs, along with specific 2025 Ford F-150 pickup trucks, are urged to review these recall notices carefully and take prompt action to ensure their safety.

Recall 1: Brake Line Vulnerability in Expedition and Navigator SUVs

A substantial number of Ford’s large SUVs are subject to a recall concerning a critical component in their braking system.

Affected Models and the Manufacturing Flaw

This recall impacts over 13,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The specific model years affected are 2022 and 2024. The root cause of this recall stems from a potential manufacturing defect. During the engine installation process at the factory, the front brake lines on these vehicles may have been inadvertently bent.

This bending is problematic because it can cause the brake lines to come into direct, abrasive contact with the nearby engine air cleaner outlet pipe. Over time, this repeated contact or friction can lead to wear on the brake lines.

Understanding the Safety Hazard

The potential damage to the brake lines from this contact can have serious consequences. If the brake lines are compromised, they can develop a brake fluid leak. Brake fluid is essential for the proper operation of a vehicle’s hydraulic braking system. A loss of brake fluid directly translates to reduced braking efficiency. Ford’s official recall documentation explicitly states that “Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.”

This means that in an emergency braking situation, the vehicle may take a significantly longer distance to come to a complete stop, dramatically increasing the risk of a collision. This defect poses a considerable safety risk to vehicle occupants and others on the road.

Notification Process and Remedial Action

The recall encompasses a total of 13,172 units of the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. Ford is committed to ensuring all affected owners are informed. Owners will receive an official notification by mail, providing detailed instructions. This notification will advise them to promptly bring their vehicle to an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealership.

At the dealership, factory-trained service technicians will perform a thorough inspection of the front brake lines. Their assessment will determine if the brake lines show any signs of improper bending, wear, or damage. If necessary, the dealership will then replace the front brake lines and/or the air cleaner outlet pipe. This repair will be carried out free of charge to the vehicle owner, ensuring the vehicle’s braking system is restored to its intended safe operating condition.

Recall 2: Steering Control Risk in 2025 F-150 Trucks

A separate recall addresses a different safety concern, focusing on a critical connection in the steering system of newer F-150 trucks.

Specific Models and Identified Defect

This second, distinct recall affects nearly 2,000 Ford F-150 pickup trucks. The vehicles involved are from the 2025 model year. The issue identified by the automaker concerns a specific bolt. This bolt is responsible for attaching the lower steering shaft to the steering gear. The defect is that this bolt may not have been tightened properly during the vehicle’s assembly process at the factory. An improperly torqued bolt in such a critical location poses a significant mechanical vulnerability.

The Danger of Losing Steering Control

The primary concern with this defect is that if the lower steering shaft bolt is not adequately secured, the connection could gradually loosen over time. A loose connection in the steering system is extremely dangerous.

It can directly lead to a loss of steering control for the driver. Imagine driving at speed and suddenly being unable to accurately steer the vehicle; this scenario significantly increases the likelihood of a serious accident, potentially resulting in injuries or fatalities. Maintaining precise steering control is fundamental to vehicle safety, and this recall directly addresses that core function.

Owner Guidance and Repair Procedure

Ford is taking swift action to notify affected F-150 truck owners. Similar to the Expedition and Navigator recall, owners will receive an official notification by mail. This communication will guide them to take their vehicle to an authorized Ford dealership. At the dealership, the lower steering shaft bolt will be meticulously inspected by qualified technicians.

If the inspection reveals that the bolt is improperly tightened or shows any signs of loosening, it will be replaced with a new, correctly torqued bolt. This critical repair will be performed at no cost to the owner, ensuring the vehicle’s steering system is fully secured and safe for operation. Ford urges all affected owners to respond promptly to these recall notices to mitigate any potential safety risks associated with these identified defects.
