Service Restored in Houston Area

By Friday evening, Xfinity and Comcast confirmed that service had been fully restored for all residential and business customers who experienced interruptions earlier that day across the Houston region.

Cause of the Outage

According to Comcast, the significant service disruption was determined to be the result of “several, back-to-back acts of suspected vandalism” to their telecommunication infrastructure. The company is collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate these incidents.

Timeline of the Disruption

The outage was initially reported around 10 a.m. on Friday. It affected a large number of Xfinity and Comcast Business customers. By 1:30 p.m., Comcast reported that almost all residential and business customers were back online, with technicians continuing efforts to restore service for the remaining affected users. Full restoration for all impacted customers was achieved by 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Company Response and Investigation

Comcast technicians worked quickly to repair the damaged fiber lines. The company issued updates throughout the day, apologizing for the inconvenience caused to customers and thanking their technical teams for their rapid response and repair work. Comcast emphasized their ongoing cooperation with law enforcement as the investigation into the suspected vandalism proceeds.

Call for Public Vigilance

In response to the incident, Comcast highlighted the broader issue of vandalism targeting telecommunication lines, noting its impact on everyone. The company stated it has collaborated with law enforcement, the media, and other internet service providers to address this problem. They also appealed directly to the public, urging community members to report any suspicious activity by contacting law enforcement. Comcast thanked its customers and the community for their patience and understanding during the outage.
