New Plague Tale Game Leaked: “Resonance”

New Plague Tale Game Leaked: "Resonance"

A new installment in the acclaimed A Plague Tale series appears to have been leaked. This accidental reveal, potentially ahead of an official showcase, points to the existence and title of the next game.

The most recent title in the series, A Plague Tale: Requiem, launched in 2022 to critical acclaim on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

The Acclaimed Plague Tale Series

The A Plague Tale franchise has been a significant success story for its developer, Asobo Studio.

From Obscurity to Acclaim

Once primarily known for licensed titles and more modest releases, Asobo Studio achieved widespread recognition with A Plague Tale: Innocence. This game captivated players and critics alike with its high-quality visuals, deeply atmospheric setting, and a compelling narrative centered on one of gaming’s most poignant sibling relationships. Innocence followed a pair of siblings navigating France during the devastating Black Death, a continent-spanning plague spread by swarms of rats.

Its sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, expanded on the supernatural elements introduced in Innocence. Requiem focused on Amicia, the elder sister, as she fiercely struggled to protect her younger brother from his mysterious condition and the sinister forces seeking to exploit it.

“Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” Accidentally Revealed

The forthcoming game’s existence was unveiled through an unexpected source.

Publisher’s Accidental Post

On June 5, publisher Focus Entertainment inadvertently leaked details about a third Plague Tale game. A pair of now-deleted posts on their official Threads account promoted the upcoming unveiling of a game titled Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. These posts, thankfully archived by vigilant Twitter users like Wario64, included a brief teaser video.

This teaser provided glimpses of the game and revealed its target platforms and anticipated release window.

Release Window and Platforms

While Focus Entertainment has yet to officially confirm the leak, it is highly probable that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will launch sometime in 2026. The revealed target platforms are Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5. Given the timing of the leak, there’s a strong possibility that a proper, official reveal could occur at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 9.

The leaked trailer did not mention the newly released Switch 2 as a target platform. However, considering that both previous A Plague Tale games eventually made their way to the original Nintendo Switch, a future release on the Switch 2 seems plausible.

Inferring the Premise: A New “Legacy”

Although specific details on Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy’s premise were scarce in the leak, the title and visual cues provide significant clues.

Acknowledging Past Events, Not Directly Continuing Them

The titling itself, specifically the inclusion of “A Plague Tale Legacy,” suggests that this new story may not be a direct continuation of the events from the previous games. The ending of A Plague Tale: Requiem was notably definitive, providing a sense of closure to Amicia and Hugo’s saga. The use of “Legacy” implies that Resonance’s story will acknowledge Requiem’s events and lore.

However, it will likely not be a direct narrative sequel, instead exploring the broader impact or consequences of the original story.

Sophia as the Featured Character

A significant clue comes from the game’s featured character. The leaked trailer and key art promoted in the now-deleted posts prominently showcased a character who strongly appears to be Sophia. Sophia, a skilled seafarer, was a pivotal character introduced in Requiem. Considering Sophia’s character arc in the previous game and earlier comments from Asobo Studio that Requiem marked the conclusion of A Plague Tale as it was known, the “Legacy” subtitle further implies the beginning of a new series or subseries.

This new direction would likely explore different facets of the Plague Tale universe, potentially with a new protagonist or focus, while still honoring the foundational narrative established by Amicia and Hugo.
