Lies of P: Overture DLC Explores Krat’s Past

Lies of P: Overture DLC Explores Krat's Past

Exciting news for fans of Lies of P! The surprise prequel DLC expansion, Lies of P: Overture, is available starting today on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Developed by Round8 and Team Nough, Overture transports players back to the city of Krat.

It delves into the untold stories and chilling secrets just before the devastating Puppet Frenzy massacre. Players will control Geppetto’s puppet, uncovering critical events that set the stage for the original game. For newcomers, the Overture bundle offers both the base game and the new DLC, with a discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers until June 18.

Exploring Krat Before the Frenzy

A major goal for Game Director Jiwon Choi was to vividly portray this pivotal period in Krat’s history.

Environmental Storytelling in Carnival Gardens

The development team utilized clever environmental design elements to manifest this earlier timeline throughout Overture’s chapters. The enemies and traversable areas are distinctly different from the base game. This ensures players always feel their place on the historical timeline. No area exemplifies this effort more than the newly introduced Carnival Gardens.

The first thing players will notice is the carnival’s operational state. Lights are on, rides and attractions are running, and even the parade master balloon remains afloat. This vibrant, active environment provides a stark contrast to the dilapidated settings found in the base game. The attractions also offer fun mini-games for Geppetto’s puppet to discover, some of which provide useful rewards.

The area is filled with festive carnival music, a welcome change from the warped, unsettling tunes of the Grand Exhibition Gallery in the main game.

Fresh Puppets and Functional Storytelling

Players will discover how the city’s puppets appeared in a fresher state of repair. They sport new coats of paint, clean clothes, and even smoother attack animations, reflecting their newly serviced mechanical joints. This is a stark contrast to the often-missing parts and neglected appearance of puppets in the base game. Overture also incorporates significant functional storytelling.

Players who wondered about the purpose of strange puppets, like buzz saw-headed dog puppets, in the original game will find their answers as they progress through Overture.

New Characters and Deeper Lore

The prequel offers a unique opportunity to interact with pivotal figures in Krat’s past.

Meeting Lucid Stalkers

Stalkers are critical characters within Krat’s culture. In the original Lies of P, encounters with Stalkers typically resulted in combat, as most had succumbed to madness or were fighting for survival. Overture provides a unique chance to meet these characters in a more lucid state, prior to the widespread chaos.

Expanding Krat’s Narrative Tapestry

Interactions with new characters in Overture continue to build upon the enchanting, yet twisted, fairy-tale narrative of Krat. The rich history that players previously read about in notes and manuscripts scattered throughout the base game will now come to life through these engaging new interactions. This expansion offers a deeper dive into the lore, providing context and background to the world and its inhabitants.

Community Support and Additional Content

The development teams express gratitude to the community for their support and announce further updates.

A Thank You to the Community

The launch of Overture would not have been possible without the incredible support of Lies of P players and the dedicated community. The developers are excited to witness players unravel Krat’s secrets and discover this new dimension of their puppet-filled world.

Base Game Patch and Future Plans

In addition to the DLC, a new patch for the base game is also available today. This patch includes valuable quality-of-life features, new difficulty settings, and convenient boss rematch modes, all provided at no extra cost. The teams at Round8 and Team Nough look forward to welcoming players back—or for the first time—to the enigmatic city of Krat.
