Final Fantasy Tactics Hits PS5/PS4 Sept 30

The highly anticipated return of a beloved classic is upon us. Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on September 30, 2025. Originally released in 1997 for the PlayStation,

Final Fantasy Tactics quickly garnered a reputation for its rich, intricate storyline and exceptionally deep, strategic gameplay. Fans and newcomers alike can now prepare to immerse themselves in this iconic strategy RPG.

Two Ways to Experience Ivalice

The development team has meticulously prepared two distinct versions of the game, ensuring an optimal experience for all players.

The Enhanced Version: Modernized for New Players

For those seeking a more modern and accessible entry point, the enhanced version offers significant improvements. This edition features fully voiced dialogue, bringing characters and narrative to life like never before. The user interface (UI) has been optimized and updated for contemporary gaming. Players will also benefit from graphical improvements that refresh the visual experience.

Additionally, a suite of quality-of-life features has been integrated, including a more accessible “Squire” difficulty setting. These enhancements make the enhanced version an excellent starting point for first-time players.

The Classic Version: True to the Original Experience

Veterans who wish to relive Final Fantasy Tactics exactly as they remember it will appreciate the classic version. This edition faithfully unites the graphics and gameplay of the original 1997 release. It also incorporates the renowned War of the Lions translation, providing a definitive way to experience this cherished title.

While largely true to its original form, this version does include some convenient modern features, such as an auto-save function, to enhance playability without compromising authenticity. Both the enhanced and classic versions are included with The Ivalice Chronicles package.

Discovering the World of Ivalice: Story, Combat, and Customization

For those new to Final Fantasy Tactics, the game offers a deep narrative and engaging gameplay mechanics.

The Epic Story of Ivalice

The adventure unfolds in Ivalice, a kingdom once blessed by divine light and now ruled by the “Two-headed Lion.” A year after a devastating defeat to Ordallia in the Fifty Years’ War, the reigning king succumbs to illness, leaving a mere two-year-old boy to ascend the throne. This power vacuum ignites a fierce conflict over who will be named regent and effectively rule the kingdom.

Two highly renowned dukes, Goltanna (the Black Lion) and Larg (the White Lion), whose deeds during the war earned them great fame, are now destined to clash. Their inevitable conflict becomes known as the War of the Lions. Against this tumultuous backdrop, players follow Ramza, the third son of House Beoulve—one of Ivalice’s leading military families—and his childhood companion Delita, a commoner raised among nobles. As they navigate this chaotic age, a powerful current draws them deeper into the abyss of political intrigue and war.

Strategic Turn-Based Combat

Gameplay in Final Fantasy Tactics centers around a highly strategic turn-based combat system. Players lead a pre-built party into dynamic 3D battlefields to confront new threats. Victory in these exhilarating encounters is determined by careful strategic positioning and meticulous forward planning. Players must skillfully manipulate the turn order of units and effectively utilize the varied terrain of the battlefields to their advantage. Every move counts in these intricate tactical engagements.

Deep Character Growth and Customization

A hallmark of Final Fantasy Tactics is its extensive character growth and customization system. Players can combine a wide variety of jobs and abilities to craft unique strategies tailored to their playstyle. As party members gain experience, they unlock access to more jobs, each possessing its own unique set of abilities.

Once an ability is learned, it can be used even if the character switches to a different job, allowing for incredible build flexibility. With over 20 jobs to master—including iconic roles like White Mage, Black Mage, Dragoon, and many others from the Final Fantasy series—and hundreds of abilities to learn, players have immense freedom to experiment and discover the perfect combinations for their party. The game also allows players to tame and lead Chocobos and other creatures into battle, adding another layer of strategic depth and charm.

Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles is set to launch in just a few short months. The game will be widely available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. More details about the game are expected to be shared before the release date. The development team is excited to either welcome back veteran players to the cherished world of Ivalice or introduce newcomers to this unforgettable adventure.
